Woodland Park Zoo offers free weekend shuttle service from Kirkland

I love the zoo, but am not a fan of dealing with traffic and parking. I guess the good folks at the zoo understand where I’m coming from, because beginning this weekend a free weekend shuttle service will start serving the Eastside in Kirkland through September 4. The South Kirkland Park and Ride (10610 NE 38th Pl) is the site of the shuttle, which will pick people up every half hour between 9:15am and 6:15pm on Saturdays and Sundays. It’s not a Metro bus, either, but rather a nice coach bus that will have compartments for strollers and room for eight car seats. The zoo has commissioned twenty-five shuttles to transport guests to and from the zoo.

Naturally there will be an app soon that will allow riders to know when the shuttle will be arriving in Kirkland or at the South Entrance of the zoo, where it drops you off. This will come in handy when you’re at the zoo and don’t want to wait forever for the shuttle. You can time your exit perfectly (assuming there’s no line!).

Folks, this is a great deal for us on the Eastside! Are you as happy about it as I am?

Here’s where you can get more information.
