If you are not familiar with the Mountains to Sound Greenway along I-90, now is the time to get to know it! Interstate 90 is the very busy highway running through the Cascade Mountains between Seattle and Eastern Washington. Along the way, there is amazing natural beauty, wildlife, and historic cities and towns, including Mercer Island, Issaquah, Snoqualmie, and more.
To protect and conserve this area, the Greenway Trust has been set up. As part of their work, they promote the beauty and tourism of the area through the Mountains to Sound Greenway, which includes the many events highlighted by Greenway Days.
Each year, there is a cool Greenway Days photo contest, and I have been meaning to participate for several years. This year, I’m actually getting off my fanny and doing it!
Here is how it works: On the Mountains to Sound Greenway website there is a list of a bunch of places in the Greenway, including several Eastside locations in Renton, Bellevue, Redmond, Mercer Island, Kirkland, Kenmore, North Bend, Carnation, and Snoqualmie. You choose either 7 or 12 of the sites, then go take a picture of yourself or your kids at the site. You also need to choose one of the summer events listed and take a picture there, too. Then upload all your pictures to the website, and you could win tons of cool prizes. It would be awesome to win the stay in a luxury tree house at TreeHouse Point in Issaquah!
I have started taking my pictures, including the one above at Remlinger Farms in Carnation. I think that is a perfect place to start your picture taking, since you can stay and have a fun day of pony rides, mini-roller coasters, and hayjumps. Remlinger Farms is the perfect place for a sunny summer day with kids about 10 and under. That is probably why Ruby Slipper Guide readers named it Best Place for Outdoor Fun in the 2011 Best of the Eastside Contest!
So grab your camera and get out and take some pictures! Let us know if you win!
