CascadiaKids.com offers travel advice for local families

The Eastside is a beautiful place full of lots of great family things to do.  But sometimes, the best part about the Eastside is how close it is to so many other wonderful places to visit.  If you are looking for ideas on where to take your family for a quick getaway, there is a fantastic website resource created by a local Washington mom:  CascadiaKids.com.

CascadiaKids.com is all about travleing with kids in the “Cascadia” area, encompassing Washington State, Oregon, and British Columbia, Canada.  You can find out about fun family road trips to places like Harrison Hot Springs in British Columbia, the San Juan Islands in Washington, and John Day Fossil Beds in Oregon.  These are perfect for families with kids of all ages who want something a little less Disney-fied than you may find on other travel sites.  There are tips on camping and hiking with kids, local independent shops that love to serve families, and advice from other parents who have tried the trips.  Looking for a quick weekend getaway is easy with this site.

Lora Shinn, the mom behind the site, is an expert at travelling with kids.  She has done extensive travelling with her own two kids, all around the Cascadia area.  In addition to her website, she writes travel articles for both local and national magazines, and has a great book out:  Northwest Kid Trips.  She says about herself, “As a little girl, I loved family trips around the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia, and I now enjoy taking my kids to visit our beaches and mountains, deserts and rainforests.”  If you are looking for great advice on a road trip with the kids, Shinn is the one to give it to you.
